Coffee Shop Musings
More coffee. More scriptwriting study. Reading about structuring conflict. The more I write the more I love the way storytelling is such a beautiful combination of imagination and structure. One of the keys is to make that structure appear so effortless that it’s barely noticeable. So the viewer is totally absorbed in the imagined world. To the point where it’s difficult to really explain why the story is so satisfying, relatable and cathartic.
Stories are how we understand the world and how we feel understood. Studying the craft while writing is helping me to make decisions, to cut excess dialogue, to make sure every scene really counts. Goodness, I love it.
If you’re interested, the book I read over and over again is Billy Mernit’s Writing The Romantic Comedy. It’s a brilliant book whatever genre you’re writing.
